Judy Avrett is an Augusta, Georgia-based studio artist whose vibrant work reflects her soulful connection with nature and color. Specializing in water-based mediums, she creates paintings that capture the wild fluidity of the natural world.
Judy paints for the joy of creative expression and to share an experience of wonder and peace that transcends the everyday. Frequently inspired by the serenity she experiences on morning meditative walks, Judy captures the essence of flora and fauna with a layered, vivid palette that has become her signature. Recently, Judy has emphasized a more spontaneous, “divinely channeled” approach. This connection, while not overtly religious, imbues sweeping and textured abstracts with a spirited, organic energy.
Judy’s artistic journey is marked by continuous growth and learning. With a BA from Georgia Southern University and advanced studies at the University of South Carolina and Augusta State University, she has refined her craft under the guidance of renowned artists such as Edgar Whitney, Carol Barnes, Alex Powers, Tony Couch, Carrie Burnes Brown, and Bob Burridge.
Her art has garnered recognition in numerous juried exhibitions, with pieces held in private and corporate collections nationwide. Notably, the Augusta National Golf Club commissioned her to paint its iconic clubhouse, a project that stands as a career highlight. Children’s author Janelle Taylor tapped Judy to illustrate beloved children’s book “How the Zebra Got Its Stripes.” She is frequently recognized as a Best Artist in local media.
Beyond the canvas, Judy teaches watercolor classes and is a dedicated Augustan, serving on the Piedmont Hospital Foundation Community Board and the Via Cognitive Health Advisory Board. She is an active member of Trinity on the Hill Global Methodist Church.
Her work is primarily showcased in partnership with Art on Broad in Augusta, and she frequently shares new work on Instagram and Facebook. Judy remains dedicated to exploring new inspirations, eagerly anticipating what each canvas will reveal. Judy is also listed in the Christian Artist Directory for Modern Christian Artwork.
